INTERFACE AT WORK: WEST WINDSOR-PLAINSBORO REGIONAL SCHOOL DISTRICT

Assignment: Replace broadloom carpet — and the broadloom mindset — throughout a 9,000 student K-12 school district

Location: 10 schools in a central New Jersey community

Architect: Faridy Thorne Fraytak, P.C.

Installation: Carpet Showcase

Products: Flor-S™, New England™, Solenium® Series 2000®, Amber Waves™, The Loop™, Rain Forest™, Interstate 95™, Route 66™, Southern Plains®

The West Windsor-Plainsboro Regional School District has enrolled a new class of carpeting. Convinced of the economic advantages of carpet tiles, school administrators agreed to replace their traditional broadloom carpet with solutions from Interface Flooring Systems. Interface carpet tiles have helped to enhance the district's indoor environmental quality and introduced a new class of floorcovering for cleanliness, aesthetics and long-term durability.

"We've participated in more than 1,000 school projects. We specified Interface tiles for this school system and we're recommending it to other school districts. It's becoming a mainstay in our specifications."

David R. Fraytak, AIA
Principal at Faridy Thorne Fraytak, P.C.

Flor-S provides a long-lasting solution for extended walk-offs. It captures and hides soil, requires minimal maintenance, and helps to prevent slips and falls. Heavily worn tiles in high traffic areas can be selectively replaced for longer life of the investment.

Challenges / Answers

Recurring wear and damage to small areas

Carpet tiles stocked in schools, ready for individual replacement.

Frequent, penetrating stains of unknown origin

Replace porous-backed broadloom carpet with tiles featuring structured backing that keeps spills and stains on the surface for easier cleaning.

Eliminate residual water from wet extraction

Solid backing allows more water to be pulled out of the carpet during wet extraction.

Enhance indoor environmental quality

Intersept®, Interface's patented antimicrobial preservative, is permanently incorporated into the backing system of all Interface products. It provides protection against mold, mildew and bacterial growth — reducing odor and requiring fewer cleaning chemicals. Interface carpet tiles meet the State of Washington Protocol, CRI Green Label and GSA Antimicrobial Certification requirements.

Frayed, rippled and loose broadloom carpet

Invisible seams prevent a "second-hand" look and protect against trips and stumbles.

Improve aesthetics for more inviting learning environment

Carpet tiles from Interface reduce ambient noise and offer a range of stimulating patterns and colors.

Simple administrative and custodial solution

Interface carpet tiles save labor and material costs, and add life to an installation. Elimination of purchasing hassles with Carpet Showcase, the local Re:Source® provider and an approved vendor on the New Jersey state contract. Bidding process eliminated and ensures on-time, on-budget completion.
