Sweeping Product Line Rollout Recaptures the Essence of Non-directional Modular
Floorcoverings
Twenty-three New Styles Mark Largest Product Introduction in Company's History
Chicago, IL - With "i2: The Next Generation Floor is Interface" as its
theme at NeoCon 2003, Interface Flooring Systems is leveraging a rich history
of product design and innovation and the company's role as the pioneer of
non-directional modular flooring. The Merchandise Mart showroom (10-140) and
the 440 North Wells showroom provide the complete i2 experience, highlighting
the functional and aesthetic benefits of the industry's most comprehensive
collection of non-directional modular floorcoverings, and showcasing the "if
your floor could talk" theme of the product ad campaign, with bold "I"
statements such as "I will touch your sole."
"Even though the economy is rebounding, we know customers are relying on us for
options that add more value. The i2 collection installs with less waste,
requires no attic stock for refurbishment, and multiple dye-lots can be used in
any installation," said John Wells, president of Interface Flooring Systems.
"That's why we have invested in the largest product roll-out in the history of
the company - 23 new products have been added to the i2 collection."
According to David Oakey, Interface's product designer, the i2 collection is
pushing the limits in both style and application of modular floorcoverings. The
i2 collection found its genesis in Oakey's exploration of biomimicry, or the
idea that products can and should mimic nature in terms of aesthetics and
functionality. That gave rise to Entropy®, the industry's first non-directional
pattern, which was launched in 2000 and quickly became the company's
top-selling product.
"With the i2 collection, we're setting a new direction for modular
floorcoverings with dynamic patterns, bold colors and unusual combinations of
colors and patterns that have never before been used in the design of these
products," explained Oakey. "We believe this new design direction will take
modular carpet into new environments beyond corporate."
Featured i2 products at NeoCon 2003 include:
Entropy - It catapulted into the contract market three years ago and
inspired a whole new design trend in contract finishes: non-directional. Now,
Entropy has expanded to 48 colorways.
Biomorph & Symbiosis - Biomorph is pushing the limits of modular design
in how abstract accents of color are utilized in modular products. Like the
unintentional splatter of color on an artist's palette, Biomorph's pattern is
amorphous, changing in size and shape from module to module. The more subtle
Symbiosis achieves a metamorphic, organic look that resembles the veining and
coloration of marble.
Latitude - Imagine a rustic lodge deep in the jungle, a casual
condominium on the beach at the edge of a lush, overgrown garden, or even a
luxury hotel in a tropical paradise. That's the Latitude collection. All three
Latitude patterns - Boardwalk, Cabana and Tropics - feature provocative color
combinations and bold patterns.
Transcendent Collection - This collection is reaching beyond the limits
in pattern design, color direction and range of scale. With six patterns that
range from floral to geometric to subtle tonal shapes, this collection has
broad application, including corporate, higher education and retail.
Nature Trails, Woodland Way and Adaptations - Modern science confirms
that there are health benefits from interaction with natural environments.
Designed for healthcare environments, or any interior that would benefit from
bringing the tranquility of nature inside, these three products mimic natural
surroundings in diversity of pattern scale and color combinations.
Modernism & Cubism - Art Deco-inspired Cubism features overlapping
geometric shapes and three different pile heights to create texture and
pattern. The more subtle Modernism transposes shapes and shades to form
understated geometric patterns.
Departures Collection - A true "departure" for modular floorcovering
design and construction, this collection is the first contract carpet to
contain Ingeo™ fibers. (Cargill Dow's Ingeo fiber is derived from a 100 percent
annually renewable resource - corn.) All four styles feature bold patterns and
color schemes never before applied to modular carpet.
Refractions - The first i2 cutpile style, Refractions links lines and
stripes that turn and bend through geometric shapes to create bands of texture.
A whimsical accent color is threaded sporadically into the pattern.
Home - A nubby loop texture product, Home features arbitrary flecks of
contrasting color applied against a neutral background. Originally designed for
residential use such as condominiums, rental properties and assisted living,
Home also has appeal in executive offices and other areas in the corporate
environment where a comfortable, domestic design scheme is desired.
Adding to the experience will be a demonstration of Interface's latest
evolution in sampling technology, The
Market, which can be accessed at
www.interfaceflooring.com/themarket. Interface led the industry
with the launch of thesamplecenter.com in 1999, and now brings floor play to
the next level with a web-based tool that gives users 24-hour access to browse
products, search product specs, request quotes, create and manage project
folders and order samples.
"We're always seeking ways to help customers do their jobs more efficiently. By
facilitating communication between project managers,
The Market allows a group of users to work on-line together via
the site," explained Claude Ouimet, senior vice president of sales and
marketing for Interface Flooring Systems.
Guests in the Mart showroom and 440 North Wells will also be able to demo the
Market's Inspired Online, an interactive design tool that allows users
to create multiple flooring options using 3-D templates and room scenes
categorized by market segment, such as healthcare or retail. Inspired Online
also allows users to experiment with different flooring options using their own
digital images.
Based in LaGrange, Georgia, Interface Flooring Systems is the pioneer of
modular carpet in the United States. Interface Flooring Systems is a division
of Interface, Inc.
