The founder and Chairman of Interface, Inc., Ray Anderson, recently received accolades from the design community’s most prestigious organizations. The ASID (Association of Interior Designers) and IIDA (International Interior Design Association) recognized Mr. Anderson for his outstanding contributions to the interior design profession with the ASID 2003 Presidential Citation and the 2003 IIDA Star Award.

THE ASID 2003 awards were presented during “ASID . . . a Celebration” an event held in conjunction with the ASID SuperCampus in Scottsdale, Arizona at the end of February. The previous year’s ASID president, Barbara Nugent, presented Mr. Anderson with a Presidential Citation. The Presidential Citation is given to an individual or individuals who have made an outstanding contribution to the Society and/or to the profession of interior design. In presenting the award at the event on February 28, Ms. Nugent stated, “Ray has challenged us [interior designers] to see that the decisions we make in the design process have significant consequences on the "larger environment"-that is, the earth-and on the health of future generations. He urges us to help our clients understand the environmental consequences of the materials and fabrication processes we choose, and to use our influence with manufacturers and suppliers to encourage greener solutions that will become restorative, not just sustainable.”

Just a few months later, Anita Barnett, FIIDA and Association President of IIDA, presented the IIDA Star Award to Mr. Anderson at the organization’s Ninth Annual Meeting on Sunday, June 15 during the International Awards and Honors program. The IIDA Star Award recognizes an individual for significant contributions to the profession of interior design. This prestigious award is not presented every year and only one IIDA Star Award may be given in any year. Ms. Barnett noted that, “While Interface is noted in its industry for its commitment to high quality design and innovation, under Ray’s leadership the company is fast gaining a reputation as a corporation carrying the banner for the environment.”
