What's Happening | Evergreen AwardInterface, Inc. Receives GSA's National Furniture Center Evergreen AwardIn 2002, Interface, Inc. received GSA's National Furniture Center Evergreen Award in recognition of the positive changes the company has made in the following areas: Waste Prevention, Recycling, Affirmative Procurement, Environmental Preferability and Model Facility. The Evergreen award was developed by the General Services Administration to acknowledge positive environmental efforts and create an example for other National Furniture Center partners to follow. Two Evergreen Awards are presented annually, one in furniture and one in furnishings. As the only carpet manufacturer recognized in 2001, Interface is pleased to carry on the long partnership it has sustained with the federal government since 1980. Jack Williams, Regional Commissioner for the Federal Supply Service, stated in a letter to Ray C. Anderson, chairman of the board for Interface, Inc., that Interface was chosen "for its extensive corporate wide programs and commitment to build environmental considerations into their business decisions." In addition, he states, "Interface's interest and support of the GSA Evergreen Award program is greatly appreciated. We are honored to recognize your firm as one of our industry partners." Interface, Inc. is also a participant in the GSA National Furniture Center's Evergreen Furnishings Program. GSA developed this program to help their customers identify environmentally preferable products. The products included in this program are promoted to the National Furniture Center's customers. To be eligible for participation in this program, products and services must be environmentally preferable (based on EPA guidance); they must be energy-efficient (in the upper 25% of energy efficiency for similar products or at least 10% more efficient than the minimum level that meets Federal standards); they must use recovered materials; and they must present a life-cycle cost savings.
